One purpose, one kind of practice
Choose what your Korean practice is supposed to do.
Listening to a message, having a two-way conversation, and preparing something for an audience are different jobs. Pick one for a short session so you can see what actually improved.
Start with the communication purpose
ACTFL organizes communication into three modes. Interpretive communication is understanding what is heard, read, or viewed. Interpersonal communication is a two-way exchange where people can react and clarify. Presentational communication is preparing a message for an audience without a live back-and-forth.
These labels are not a score or a complete curriculum. They help you name today's job. ACTFL also notes that a learner can be at different levels in different modes, so one difficult conversation does not erase progress in listening or writing.
Your five-line practice-mode card
- Real purpose: Write one thing you want to do, such as understand a short announcement, confirm a plan with another person, or prepare a brief introduction.
- Mode: Mark understand, interact, or present. If the task contains several modes, choose the one that is causing the problem today.
- Small evidence: Decide what you will produce: one main idea from a clip, two clear turns in a role-play, or a short message recorded once.
- Support: List what you may use during the first attempt: transcript, notes, teacher model, picture, or key words. Remove only one support for the retry.
- Teacher question: Write the one point that needs a teacher's check, such as whether the language fits the relationship, purpose, and level of formality.
Use a task that matches the mode
For understand, listen or read for a clear purpose before checking every unknown word. For interact, practice reacting, asking for clarification, and confirming meaning with another person. For present, prepare a message, then check whether its order and level of detail suit the audience.
Fictional card: Purpose: confirm a meeting change. Mode: interact. Evidence: complete two turns without reading a full script. Support: three key words. Teacher question: does the confirmed wording fit a polite work conversation? No Korean sentence is added until the teacher checks it.
Repeat the purpose in a second situation
ACTFL's Can-Do guidance says progress is demonstrated over time and across more than one situation. After a first attempt, keep the same communication purpose but change one detail: the person, location, time, or message. That shows whether you can use the skill again instead of only remembering one script.
For an understanding task, use the listening question card. After a teacher checks your language, save one point with the lesson correction card.
Bring one real communication purpose
Tell Ashley whether you need to understand, interact, or present, and describe the real situation. Lesson scope, availability and fee are agreed separately.
