Before your Korean lesson

Get Korean typing ready before the lesson begins.

A short private typing check can show where you need help: switching the keyboard, finding a key, or understanding the Korean item itself. Keep those questions separate.

A keyboard layout is not a language lesson

The keyboard or input source determines how you enter characters. It does not establish that you understand them or can pronounce them. For this check, choose one short item from material your teacher has already explained. Keep its checked spelling visible; memorisation is not the task today.

If Hangul is still unfamiliar, begin with the Hangul starter guide and ask your teacher what to try. You do not need to invent a sentence or learn an entire keyboard during this check.

Find the route for the device you already use

Use the manufacturer's current help for your software version. Keep your usual keyboard available. Do not install an unfamiliar keyboard, erase existing layouts or change the whole device language just to follow a practice exercise.

If these routes do not match your screen, stop and use the help for your actual device and keyboard. On a managed work or school device, ask its administrator before changing settings. You should not need to share a password or account details for a typing question.

Try one item in a private note

  1. Open a blank note. Use a place where text will not accidentally be sent. Do not test in a customer message, live booking form or shared work document.
  2. Choose the Korean keyboard. Check the active language or input-source label. Keep the teacher-provided item visible beside the note.
  3. Type, rather than paste. Enter the item slowly. Use a keyboard viewer or visible key labels if available. If a suggestion changes your text, compare the final result with the source.
  4. Make one correction. Remove and re-enter a part of your attempt. Observe what your keyboard deletes; do not assume it behaves exactly like your English layout.
  5. Switch back. Select your usual keyboard and type a short English label. Then reopen the note to confirm you can still read the saved result.

Bring the right problem to the right helper

Tool question: "I can select Korean, but I cannot find the key I need in this layout." Record the device, keyboard name and app. If a screenshot helps, crop out private messages and account information.

Learning question: "I can enter the characters, but I am not sure this is the correct spelling for the item we studied." Bring the checked source and your attempt to your teacher. A pasted answer is a reference copy, not evidence that you typed it independently.

This check is different from the online lesson connection check: it tests text entry, not the microphone or video call. Save a teacher-confirmed language correction with the correction guide.

Choose one manageable typing task

Tell Ashley what you already read or type and where you get stuck. Discuss an appropriate Korean learning task; device support and managed-device permissions remain separate. Lesson scope, availability and fee are confirmed directly.
